Betty White - Saturday Night Live Host

Born Betty Marion White on January 17, 1922 Betty's first big break came in the form of her own television series "Life with Elizabeth". Betty White has been entertaining TV and movie audiences since 1952 and is showing no signs of slowing down. According to Tom Gliatto, "5 Reasons We Love Betty White" Jan.2010, Betty was once described by the Wall Street Journal as "television's longest working actress". Tom Gliatto describes Betty as "pretty, pert and charming",

and that it was only in her middle age that she came into her two most famous acting roles. On The Mary Tyler Moore Show she played the decidedly obnoxious Sue Ann Nivens. For this character she portrayed a sugary sweet, on the surface, type woman. As it turned out, Sue Ann Nivens was really devious and diabolical. Following that role Betty wowed the crowds with her performance as naive Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls.

What is Betty White Up to Today

According to Stephen M. Silverman, WNBC News, March 11, 2010, Saturday Night Live has announced that Betty White will host the long running, very popular Saturday Night Live show. The show's producer, Lorne Michaels, tells USA Today, that it was the enormity of the campaign waged on Facebook that got his attention.

The Facebook campaign was sparked by Whites' appearance in the Snickers Super Bowl commercial. The SNL episode aired May 8th, and she was greatly applauded. Betty White was also honored recently at the Screen Actors Guild Awards with the 46th Annual Life Achievement Award. In Pet Projects for the Proposal Star: Betty White", from the staff at Jolly People Betty has maintained a 40 year commitment to the Morris Animal Foundation.

The foundation gives veterinary care, offers protection, and finds safety for displaced animals. Betty is also dedicated to the Los Angeles Zoo. The zoo recently honored Betty White with a bronze plaque naming her Ambassador to Animals. It does not seem to matter what else the star-comedian has done over her career, Betty White Animal Activist, is always at the forefront.

What's Next for Betty White

The 88 year old actress has no plans of slowing down. She is currently scheduled to star in the season finale of the television show The Middle. By Lara Martin, "Betty White: New TV Show is Delight", on digital spy, the co-creators of the The Middle claim it was Betty White they thought of when creating the part, but since she is so hot right now, they never drempt she'd agree. The legendary actress has also signed on to co-star in the upcoming TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland. Betty will play Elka Ostrovsky, the care-taker of a rental house in Cleveland. The home is inhabited by three women played by, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendy Malick and Jane Leeves.

In an interview on DVD Talk, Betty white says "the pilot got picked up so fast that it blew all our minds". The star went on to praise the wonderful chemistry between her and her co- stars. She does elaborate though, with a word of caution, my character on the show is "not a nice person". The show airs in June/2010.
