Previous Contestants

The jungle can do wonders for somebody's career. The British public get to see celebrities being completely themselves. The viewers fall in love with those contestants who can make us laugh, cry and whom we can relate to. However, it's not all good. There are always those celebs whose personality stinks and they end up being public enemy number one. Here's a look back at some of the most notorious contestants:

Series One

Back in 2002, eight celebrities headed to the Aussie jungle. The first series had an average of 7.5 million viewers but it's not as well remembered as some series. The most loved contestants were eventual winner Tony Blackburn, who was duped by Uri Geller into believing he was using his psychic powers by contacting his wife, and runner-up Tara Palmer Tomkinson.

Series Two

This series saw an increase in popularity and this time ten celebrities entered the outback. King of the Jungle Phil Tufnell won over the public with his cheeky personality and drunken stories about love. John Fashanu became a firm favourite in the Bushtucker trials.

Series Three

This was possibly one of the most famous series as it produced the first romance in the jungle. Peter Andre and Katie Price (Jordan) met and fell in the love on the show which kept the viewers watching. Kerry Katona won the nation's hearts and became the first Queen of the Jungle. Surprisingly popular, Royal correspondent Jennie Bond showed she was more than she seemed by giving it her all in the Bushtucker trials.

Series Four

This series produced the funniest trial ever when Princess Diana's former butler Paul Burrell took part in Hell Holes. The winner, however, was comedian Joe Pasquale, who won the public over with his humour. This series saw the first couple to enter in the form of Nancy Sorrell and Vic Reeves.

Series Five

A surprising winner in the former Prime Minister's daughter Carol Thatcher, who faced the most Bushtucker trials amongst her contestants. But her best moment was definitely when the camp tried to figure out who had "relieved themselves" beside the camp beds and even though the entire viewing nation knew it was her, she kept quiet. Priceless. Other favourites included Sheree Murphy and Sid Owen.

Series Six

This series provided lots of memorable moments from Myleene's bikini body, King of the Jungle Matt eating a kangaroo's anus, David Gest's eccentricity and Dean Gaffney's face during the trials. This series was also the first to split the camp in two.

Series Seven

Another series, another romance. Actor Marc Bannerman, who was already spoken for, and Welsh singer Cerys Matthews flirted in the jungle. This led to Marc's early exit as the public disliked his behaviour towards Cerys when he had a girlfriend waiting for him back home. Surprisingly popular was American supermodel Janice Dickinson, who won everyone over with her straight-talking demeanor. However, national treasure Christopher Biggins won the show.

Series Eight

In 2008 there were many memorable contestants. King of the Jungle Joe Swash made us smile with his cheeky remarks and his "bromance" with Star Trek legend George Takei. Another duo that caused a stir was David Van Day and Timmy Mallet who were outsiders when they entered the jungle late.

Series Nine

Last year, we saw a second appearance from Katie Price (Jordan) who wanted to get over her break up from Peter Andre, whom she met in the jungle. It was TV chef Gino D'ACampo who stole the show and eventually went on to be crowned King of the Jungle. Kim Woodburn made us laugh with her cutthroat comments and we also seen another couple enter in the form of Colin and Justin.

What's Next?

Looking back, there have been nine great series with some memorable celebrities, so let's hope the tenth is just as good.
